THE 2008 TOURNAMENT:
Four teams of two played an ambrose event over nine holes. The handicaps were averaged and divided by two for the nine holes
Each player had his tee shot used three times.
Each player put in one brand new boxed ball in accordance with the definition as defined by the SMERGS match playing committee.
The day was chosen when an even number turned up in order to give more equal competition in true SMERGS spirit!
THE WINNERS:
1. The winning group was determined by the lowest net score.
2. No loss of handicap and the losing three teams paid for coffee.

The premier event on the SMERGS calendar
NINTH ANNUAL CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
(hereinafter referred to as ‘The
Championship’) for the
QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY REPUBLICAN
TROPHY (the ‘BEIGE JACKET’)
ROYAL NORTHBRIDGE G.C. – Monday 9th June 2008
Order of Play
The Championship shall be played over 18 holes. The first tee will be available from 6.30 am. All competitors should be on the first tee for the ‘Call to Order’ by 6.20 am.
Groups shall be determined using the traditional SMERGS method.
Players shall be required to contribute 3 new individually-boxed golf balls each (balls to match the boxes, please; Rockets acceptable) by way of entry fee.
Because members have experienced some embarrassment (even felt really stupid) in the singing of the SMERGS song (especially near a main thoroughfare), this will NOT be part of the proceedings. Instead, each member shall recite (sotto voce if preferred) "I still call Northbridge home" as he tees his ball on the first tee.
Play shall be from the blue tees.
Events:
Club Champion Winner: Net stroke score for 18 holes (Champion’s Beige Jacket plus x balls plus trophy)
Front 9 Net stroke score (excluding winners of events 1 and 3)
Back 9 Net stroke score (excluding winners of events 1 and 2)
NTP Hole # 3 and # 15
Longest drive Hole # 14
Teams Based on average net score
Notes:
Club handicaps rather than SMERGS handicaps were used in 2008.
In the event of a tie, the winner shall be determined by a countback based on the relative aggregates of groups of 3 holes.

Played in glorious conditions amongst the Australian Longest Drive Championships! Usual controversy prevailed while all played off SMERGS handicaps exceot for Simon off his club handicap, 14. We missed you , Rob Miller!!!
In the event of ties, the best aggregate score on the last 6 holes will count, if still a tie, the last 3 holes, then hole by hole! So individual prizes cannot be shared and overall winner will lose two strokes and 'out' and 'in' winners one stroke each.
